I've come to the conclusion that the guys that actually wanna listen to what I have to say are not the guys that are my age. :/ All my best guy friends are at least a few years older than me. Which is fine, but I'm annoyed because when I get back to school I'll have to go back to dealing with boys that have NO attention span, that don't even care about what I'm saying. Ugh. No wonder I haven't got a boyfriend.

Well, Junior year starts tomorrow, and I can't say I'm all that excited anymore. After going to open house, I didn't see anyone new that I was interested in, and that's depressing. Just the same old faces from last years honors classes, some annoying and some friends. It's great that I have friends in every class, but I'd wanted to make some more, you know? At least I'll probably be able to do that in computer programming once I switch into that. That's the only thing I'm excited aboot. :)

And in other news, I bought a plant for my desk. And I've been trying to plan a compost heap in my backyard.

    <lj:music>Loveless OST - Tragedies ~Seimei~</lj:music>

For my teeny local comicon in January, I plan to dress up as a Spider Splicer from Bioshock. (Because I like to do things way after everyone else does I guess)

BUT even if you don't know what that is, you can still help me! I found a near-perfect dress at my Goodwill (it just doesn't have long sleeves, but I'm happy about that, because that means I don't have to sweat a lot!), and ripped it up accordingly. My problem: It looks like Tinkerbell.

It's not as blue as it looks in these pics, it's actually quite green.

This is how it's supposed to look:

So you kinda see my dilemma. I've seen other Spider Splicers do this type thing:

So idk how to make it look better. Of course, my pics are before I've pinned on the rose and made it sufficiently dirty etc

In other news, been looking up colleges and shit. Also downloading C++ right now so I can cry deeply at how much I fail.

I'm on the first day of our vacation in California. We just went to the beach, and now we're about to head to my Uncle Tom's house, two hours away. God, those waves kicked my ass. Much stronger than I'm used to :( I got sand burn on one of my knees. They kind of scared me, but hopefully next time we go, in a few days, I'll have the balls to go in again. And CONQUER.

It's really nice here though, the weather is just gorgeous; it's much better than AZ atm, where it's a million degrees hotter and also monsoon season. (Although I love monsoon season - I heard the loudest thunder in my life the night before we left!)

Tomorrow we're going to Universal Studios, then after that a whole day at the beach. Then Saturday we're going to Little Tokyo and a car museum. :D

I've been trying to stop lurking and commenting more on you guys, but since I'm on vacation that probably won't be happening :U

Well, I've been doing well for myself this summer, I think! I love my job very much, and it's pretty much the only reason I leave the house (lucky for me, I've been getting more hours :D). Still playing Left 4 Dead insanely much, but today I got ~THE 'WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PROVE?' ACHIEVEMENT~ for beating all campaigns on expert. I feel so immensely badass, and it was only 35G. Whatever. Four more achievements to go, then I will be done with that game forever. Matthew's gonna be so pissed that I did it without him, it will be glorious.

But anyway, back to stuff. Today I got 'borrowed' to a store in Scottsdale, which was a good 20 minutes from my house, but that was ok I guess. Scottsdale is a really snooty town, and the mall this EB Games was in was EFFING HUGE and I got lost, but I had a fantastic time. It was supposed to be me and a kid named Chris on shift, but Frank stayed after his shift because we were having so much fun. I think we had 3 customers, and I probably did a half hour's worth of work. In five hours. It was soooo much different than my normal store - we're workaholics there.

It was so laid back though! And my god, my stomach hurt from laughing once I got home. We chatted about video games and Family Guy mostly, but man those guys were funny. We're planning to have a party where we just play MGS4 all night, which I am IMMENSELY excited about, since I've been dying to play that game forever. My mom is hesitant to let me chill with some random dudes, but they seem really harmless. In fact, I felt a little ostracized for my age. Chris is 19 and Frank is 21, so they were like "oh shit you're a little kid!" and were acting like they couldn't hang out with me because I was 16. idc, yo.

What else is going on? Not much. I bought CoD4:MW a few days ago, but I think I'll play it after I'm finished being obsessed with L4D achievements. I also need to read my summer reading books but Jane Eyre is all bleh and I am preoccupied with gaming.

I GOT THE JOB AT GAMESTOP! I know a lot of people say it sucks to work there, but I'm really happy. I have a nice manager (as far as I can tell), and I'm going to try really hard to provide better customer service than a lot of Gamestop employees I've heard about. Ooh, I can't wait for my first day. :D Anyway -

Check out what I found at Lee Lee's yesterday! I don't know, maybe you guys see them everywhere or something, but I had never seen one in person before. So, I bought one! Unfortunately I took a bite and lost my appetite for the rest of the day. Clearly Snake's taste for this grapefruit-margarine-almond-potato-milk-egg powder crap was swayed from eating raw animals.

Probably most of you have seen this already, but here's the best trailer for the SH1 reimagining I've seen:

<lj-embed id="4" />

I think it looks CREEPY AS HELL and I can't wait to play it. Apparently the SH fandom is ripping itself to shreds because half hates it to death and half is interested. I personally think all the crazy differences make it more interesting.

I have all the achievements for RE5 now, except for the War Hero one but uh, no :/

I'm just not sure I like zombie games, aside from Dead Rising, which is awesome. I feel like RE takes itself too seriously. I mean, I've played Code Veronica before, but that seemed to have a better plot.

But I'm only on the first boss. (Just that it's being a terrible pain in the ass.
So! I just played Silent Hill: Homecoming after renting it for a few days. It's the first Silent Hill game I've played since I'm a huge pussy, but I finished it, so I'm very proud of myself. Well . . . finished it kind of. I couldn't beat the final boss because I went in ill-prepared D: Five rifle bullets and the knife was all I had on me, because I wasn't thinking this was the LAST boss. So I pumped all the final dudes full of ammo then went in all AW CRAP. I tried three times, but fighting it with a knife is so terribly boring :( so I watched the ending we would have gotten on youtube and called it a day. (this was after playing it for nine hours straight. gave me some weird dreams, I tell you.)

I'm really happy I've finally played a SH game, since I've read so goddamn much about them that I could probably write a novel without having played any of them (besides watching an LP of 0rigins). I liked Homecoming, though! Besides the sewers, they were terrible. I haven't heard many fan reviews besides on SA, but they all seemed pretty positive. I really grew attached to Alex throughout, even with his weird monkey faces.

Rented the new Prince of Persia, as well. It sucks. Pretty graphics, nice new tricks, but the snark makes me want to shove barbed wire in my skull. I hate the prince AND his stupid bitch that clings onto him like a whore even though she quite clearly has the same jumping-climbing skills that the prince does. Also I don't think it's right that a brand new game should still be able to pull the whole artificial-lengthening deal, making me go through a level once to get to the boss, then again to collect all the shiny things. Boring.

Whenever I'm discussing religion with anyone, I notice there's a vast difference between their reaction when I say "I don't have a religion" and when I say "I'm an atheist". They mean the same thing! And then afterward it always gets construed, like someone says "even if you believe in atheism..." ugh, it's not that at all. It's a lack of belief. Sometimes I feel like people take atheism to mean anti-God, which I don't think is necessarily correct. Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean I don't respect your right to worship whomever you please. I just wish atheism didn't have such a negative connotation, when there are so many atheists that aren't stuck up, high-and-mighty people, like everyone seems to stereotype us as. I don't stereotype Christians or Mormons as all bible-thumpers, do I? (only mentioning those two because I've only really debated with people of those two religions). It would be nice to have the same respect.

Besides, whenever I get into a debate, for the most part, it's one-sided. I don't like insulting people, and atheist ideas are way more jarring to most people I talk to than Christian ideas. So, I let them talk to me and I listen. I love hearing about religion and what people believe - it's just when they start invading my right to choose to have no religion that I get upset. It's so uncomfortable when I feel like someone is trying to convert me. Can't we just have a conversation?

I'm really hyped up about things right now, and I could go on about more things that upset me now-a-days, but I think I'll stop there, lest I hurt any of my IRL friends. I'm just venting a little, not trying to sound uppity or rude. :/

EDIT: Oh yeah, man, it was so annoying. I was arguing with Collin today about whether Judaism is a religion as well as a race - he was telling me that you have to have a country to have a race. I strongly disagreed, because Caucasian people are from many different countries, etc. but he wouldn't listen. We texted Cha Cha twice and they backed me up - that it's genetic connections that make a race. So I show him the text like "See what I mean?" and he blustered for a while then was like "WELL HITLER WASN'T JEWISH". Wat. I just started at him. That man is a debating master

He did a good job. The movie was creepier than I expected it to be. I could hear a few kids crying in the theater, but thankfully it was relatively quiet. I think some parents were surprised. There's a part where this old lady with GIANTASS BOOBS is bouncing around with these little things barely covering her nips and I was like uh xD; I know that everyone's going to be comparing it to Alice in Wonderland, and while I can see the obvious similarities, try and think of it something on its own.
Dear Mr. Math Teacher,

You are pretty good at teaching me algebra II. Last semester, I got an A in your class and I'm not very good at math, so I was happy! However, this semester isn't starting out so well. I got a D on the first test, then an A, then an F. This leaves me with a C overall, and that does not bode well. That's a pretty shitty grade. But that's not where my beef is with you.

Sir, you are a very partial teacher. It'll sound like an exaggeration when I say this, but I see how you act around students you enjoy and ones that you dislike. I can understand that, it's human. However. The students you enjoy are the ones that are smart. This means you're paying the most attention to the smart kids. Do you see where I'm going with this? It really isn't fair.

Last year I had a math teacher that was notoriously mean, but I'm finding you worse than him now. At least he would accept my questions and help me. On that last test, I missed every single question on the backside of the page. Landed like a 26 out of 60. What do I get from you? Nothing. No "see me at lunch", no "hey Nancy, I see you need help with this"? Okay, okay. I know it's not your job to chase me around and force me to learn.

But even when I came in at lunch today your attitude toward me was cold and impatient. I started with a friendly, "Hey, I saw my test grade and I figured I'd come in here to get help understanding the homework because of it, heh." That's incentive, is it not? That's me telling you, "please freaking help me". You simply tell me to sign in, so I do, and I sit down.

I told myself this time that I wasn't going to be afraid. You always manage to ridicule me when I ask a "dumb" question, to the point where I ask the people around me in class when I don't understand rather than you. This leads me to wrong information. This is not a good teaching skill! Every time I ask a question, I do not want you to begin with "it's simple." Every time I ask a question, I do not want a heavy sigh or an incredulous laugh in response. I want clarity.

So today, I set it all out for you, said I was going to do the steps and see where I go wrong. I'm barely halfway through explaining when you start inching away, to the point where I had to tell you, "Wait, I'm not finished!" This is not cool! You made me feel rushed and even more stupid, because whenever I clarified anything I'd get a "Yes, of course" type answer.

I have never been good at simplifying under radicals, cube roots, those type things. Ever. I don't care if that makes me a stupid student to you, one that you don't care to speak with. For God's sake, you told the class you had a hard time grasping subtraction when you were in junior high.

Not to mention those terrible emails you send to our parents saying that if your child has a certain ranking or lower in the class, they should drop. That is horrible. You don't think people can start low and succeed high? Your lack of faith really hurts me. Thanks a lot for that.

Yours,
Nancy
